But what does that mean for you? First and foremost, it indicates how learning just one language other than your native tongue can make space for you in the better half of the world. And if you know a third language, you’re already among the top 13% of people!

The benefits of learning a new language are diverse, as we’ve already discussed with you in the past. Since you’re here, you must be aware of those benefits already.

The real struggle for many is not the why but the how. How to make time for language learning alongside work or studies? How to accelerate the learning process? How to make the most of whatever little time you can find to learn a new language?

Well, we’d be happy to help you on your path to becoming a polyglot by sharing with you the tricks and tips to learning a language fast. Excited to explore these tricks? Let’s get started!

Trick #1: Start by reading children’s books.

When did you learn your first language? Probably as a toddler, and look how well you’ve mastered it today. Sure, you had a lot of time to practice, but the elementary method also deserves some credit.

Prepared with the intention of educating young minds from scratch, elementary-level books are created with utmost care and precision. That’s why we believe that the elementary-level books of the language are an ideal place for you to kickstart your language-learning journey.

In these books, you’ll find the most basic vocabulary and language concepts that are both easy to grasp and fundamental in the learning process. Not to mention how you’ll always have extra worksheets to practice!

Trick #2: Immerse in the entertainment sources in the language.

Reading elementary books to learn a new language is certainly helpful, but you can’t expect it to be captivating; it was meant for toddlers, so it’s natural for you to find it a tad bit boring as an adult.

How to combat this issue? Don’t restrict yourself solely to these textbooks; venture far and wide into other learning sources. Some of the more appealing ones are storybooks, podcasts, and movies.

Reading, listening to, and watching these entertainment sources in the language you’re trying to learn can do wonders for your learning process.

However, you should always go for the kind of entertainment that appeals to you. If you’re into movies, listening to podcasts might not take to you soon; the same is true for storybooks.

Trick #3: Seek out free online resources for practice.

We discussed earlier how elementary-level language textbooks can serve you ample practice opportunities.

However, while they’re well-suited for a toddler who probably has 2-3 years to master the language, to learn it in a much shorter time, you’ll need more practice.

Where will you find more practice material? Don’t think about touching your wallet yet; there are many free resources for such things online these days. Some great examples are free language-learning apps like DuolingoFluentUBusuuHiNative, and more.

All you need to do is install these apps, register your account, and start practicing! Some of these platforms also have learning communities to keep the users motivated and on the learning track. So, if that’s something you struggle with, these platforms can prove to be a boon.

Trick #4: Include language learning in your daily habit.

We might not have placed this trick on top, but believe us when we say that this trick is handy in learning just about anything fast, including a new language.

Humans are called creatures of habit for a good reason; anything we take up religiously day after day becomes deeply ingrained in our brains. Take brushing or eating, for instance. Just how much thought do you put into it consciously? Very little, right?

This is why it’s essential to make time for language learning daily. It doesn’t have to be long assignments or lengthy hours; save those for the weekend.

Even a quick 30-minute-long leafing through pages will work. Just make it a point to read or speak something in that language every single day, without fail.

Trick #5: Avoid learning two languages at once.

We understand that learning something new can be exciting, but getting too carried away in this excitement isn’t healthy. If you’ve started making progress in learning your first language and think it’s time to move to a new one, hold on!

Many expert polyglots around the world mention that this is the most common mistake new learners make, which sets them off course soon. Wondering why? It disrupts your focus by dividing your time and efforts.

And the more the language-learning process stretches for you, the higher your chances of losing interest altogether. As a preventative measure from such issues down the road, it’s always best to stick to one language until you’ve gained proficiency.
